Star is one of five municipalities located in Montgomery County and boasts of having the exact geographic center of North Carolina. This is evidenced in the fact that the Army Corps of Engineers has measured (via satellite) and located the exact geographic center of our state, which is now officially marked. Being located in the center makes us easily accessible from any area of our beautiful state and beyond.

Approximately 800 residents live in this little town, which has thrived on its rich history revolving around the railroad and hosiery industries. Today, the town of Star is involved in a comprehensive economic restructuring effort which focuses on cultural tourism. STARWorks is not only an incredible art & culture destination for the town, it is a treasure for the state. It’s also one of the only places that makes ceramic clay made from the earth of this famous pottery region.

The town of Star lies approximately 1/4 mile west of the I-73/74 corridor in Montgomery County. And has three outstanding golf courses in our county (see Local Attractions) and is within 30 miles of Pinehurst which offers some of the most premier golf courses in the world.
